More ‘technical’ details of the scales can be found below that may be useful for musicians or when looking to pair with other comparable scales.

Each tongue of the Hapi Drum is precisely tuned to a note that fit a scale. It provides the variation of low to high notes needed to create beautiful tunes. Scales have their own character, but rest assured, they are all equally beautiful, so you can confidently pick any one of them. Which is best comes down to your personal preference and which scale “speaks to you” the most. Try the sounds clips below.

  1. Major Scales are Bright and Cheerful like the musical equivalent of sunshine on a spring morning. They exude positivity and happiness.
  2. Minor scales take us on a slightly different emotional journey. They’re like the soundtrack to a thoughtful rainy day, pondering life’s mysteries.
  3. Akebono scale originate from Japan. Imagine cherry blossoms falling gently—a serene and contemplative mood.

The pentatonic scale consists of five notes per octave. These notes are carefully curated to create a sound that’s both universal and timeless.  It’s a musical scale with a minimalist vibe that dates back to many ancient civilizations.  The word “pentatonic” comes from the Greek word “pente” meaning five and tonic meaning tone. Pentatonic scales are like the cool, laid-back friend who shows up at every jam session. They’re versatile, easy to play, and universally pleasing.

G Major Notes (G3, A3, B3, D4, E4, G4, A4, B4)

Known as the “people’s key” it is one of the most popular keys in classical and modern music. This scale is great with guitar because all of a guitars 6 strings can be played open in G. The banjo is also usually tuned to G.

A Akebano Notes (A3, B3, C4, E4, F4, A4, B4, C5)

The A Akebono Pentatonic scale originates from Japan. It produces a meditative / exotic sound. It sounds great played with Western and Eastern instruments.
