It's constructed with small flexible metal sheet suspended in a wire frame ending in a handle. The pitch can be altered by bending the spring steel while the wooden balls strike the surface. </span></div>

While it is not used very frequently in mainstream music, the flexatone is one of the instruments for which there is really no suitable replacement.
